About us
Who we are
Welcome to the official website of the Islamic Community and the Plav-Gusinje Cultural Center in New York.
Our story
Welcome to the official website of the Islamic Community and the Plav-Gusinje Cultural Center in New York.
Our community, composed mainly of Bosniaks who immigrated to America in the 1990s, and some even earlier, has a rich history and culture. The oldest members of our community moved to New York back in the 60s and 70s of the last century. We are proud of our roots and try to preserve our tradition and faith in these areas. Our community also includes a number of members of the Albanian community, and we are open to anyone who wants to share the values of Islam and participate in our activities.
Our mission
The mission of our center includes:
Promotion of Islamic values and practices within our community and beyond.
Maintaining and promoting Bosniak cultural heritage through various activities and events.
Strengthening the moral and ethical values that are the foundation of our community.
Provision of educational programs and activities for young people, in order to ensure their spiritual and intellectual development.
Supporting connections and communication with our roots and communities in native Plav and Gusinje, in order to preserve and strengthen our ties across the ocean.
In addition, our center serves as a gathering place where we foster mutual support and understanding, and work to preserve our cultural heritage. We invite you to participate in our activities and be part of our community. Thank you for visiting our site and we look forward to your engagement.
